ETYMOLOGY
ON froskr, OE forsc, frox, OS frosc, OHG frosc, MHG vrosch, NHG Frosch; from PGmc ✱fruska- 'frog' (GM), perhaps from older ✱frug-ska-, from the same root as ✱frug/kkan- (OE frogga, English frog) < ✱pruk-én-, ✱pruk-n-ós (GM); from the root ✱preugʰ- 'to jump' (so 'jumper').
Perhaps related to Russian пры́гать 'to leap' (though Kroonen is doubtful).
