OE ǣger-felma 'skin of an egg', (diminutive) filmen 'skin, membrane, husk' (< ✱felm-īna/ō-), English film, Middle Dutch velm, vilm 'film'; from PGmc ✱felma(n)- 'membrane' < ✱pel-mon- (EUR); an old mn-stem from the root of ✱fella- 'skin' (see פֿעל).
