The variant פֿאַרקאַשערן appears to be based on the declined from of Polish zakasać 'to roll up' with an added -r suffix, e.g,. zakaszę 'I roll up'. The variant פֿאַרקאַטשען appears to be based on Ukrainian закачати.
The idiom פֿאַרקאַטשען / פֿאַרקאַשערן די אַרבל 'to roll up one's sleeves' appears to be a calque of Polish zakasać rękawy; cf. Belarusian закасаць рукавы.
