Icelandic slapa 'to be slack', slapur 'weak'; from PIE ✱slobʰ-; cf. Polish słaby 'weak'; Russian сла́бый; from Proto-Slavic ✱slàbъ 'weak'; Lithuanian slãbnas; also PIE ✱lh₂b-eh₂-, ✱leh₂b-e/o-, ✱leh₂-beh₁-; cf, Latin lābor 'to slip'.
