סקאָצל קומט

ETYMOLOGY

Probably from MHG bis gote (unde mir) willekommen 'be welcome to God (and me)', but usually reinterpreted as 'the קאָצל is coming'. Sometimes סקאָצל is reinterpreted as שקאָצל 'scoundrel' (see שקאָץ, שקאָצים). Sometimes the second part of the phrase was reinterpreted as קינד, so ס'קאָצל קינד 'the kotsl child'.
