דאָס/די/דער
(NORTHEASTERN and SOUTHEASTERN mainly די, SOUTHEASTERN partly דאָס, NORTHEASTERN partly דער)

ETYMOLOGY

The phrase וואַרפֿן זיך אין די אויגן 'to be conspicuous (lit. to through oneself into the eyes)' is a calque of Polish rzucać się w oczy 'idem.'
The DSA map of shows that the East Central German form is mainly (with a long /oː/), while the main form in East Franconian and Rhine Franconian (including Frankfurt/Main) is (with a long /aː/). These dialects appear to have had an important role in the development of Eastern and Western Yiddish, respectively, with mainly /aː/ in the West and mainly /oj/ in the East.

Got. augo, Crimean Got. (pl.) oeghene, ON auga, OE ēage, English eye, OS ōga, OHG ouga, MHG ouge, oug, NHG Auge; from PGmc ✱augōn-; from PIE ✱h₃okʷ-n- < ✱h₃okʷ-s, gen. ✱h₃(o)kʷ-és, cf. Sanskrit ákṣi-, Greek ὄσσε, Latin oculus, Lithuanian akìs
The Germanic diphthong ✱au perhaps arose by analogy with ✱auzōn- 'ear' (see אויער).

Data and statistics from the LCAAJ could be given in a footnote for those interested in more detail. For example, among the 168 locations I analyzed (out of 603), the gender of the word is neuter in 50%, masculine in 18%, and feminine in 32%. The more detailed phonetic transcriptions and the names of the locations could also be added for scholars, as could the proto-vowel reconstructed by Yiddish linguists (in this case: ou44).
