ETYMOLOGY

The pattern for אָפּפֿאַסטן can be seen in אָפּעסן 'to eat (to the end)', אָפּדאַוונען 'to finish praying'. The pattern was perhaps formed based on אָפּשנײַדן (Polish odcinać).
