ETYMOLOGY

The pattern for אָפּדאַווענען can be seen in אָפּעסן 'to eat (to the end)', אָפּטרינקען 'to drink (to the end), to drink a sip'. The pattern was perhaps formed based on אָפּשנײַדן (Polish odcinać).
